This week, Dancewave is excited to announce Marion Spencer as our Featured teacher of the week!

A Brooklyn based dance artist, Marion graduated from Vassar College in 2009 with a BA in Geography-Anthropology. Since moving to New York in 2014, Marion has worked with Hollis Bartlett, Shandoah Goldman, Megan Bascom, Melissa Riker and apprenticing with David Dorfman Dance. She is thrilled be part of the Dancewave family as a teaching artist.

Marion has been teaching Creative Movement and Creative Ballet to some of Dancewave’s youngest students (18 months – 6 years). These classes introduce students to the creativity, discipline and fun of a dance class. Students begin with an age-appropriate warm up and stretch activity, followed by some creative exercises where they use their imagination to move their bodies. In Creative Ballet, a section of class is devoted to introducing ballet technique through basic exercises, followed by a full-bodied across the floor combination and some fun free dancing to end class.

ADULT MODERN CLASSES

Starting September 1, Marion will also be teaching Modern to our adult students! This class will be highly imaginative and will immerse dancers into a physical investigation of themselves as movers. Class would include a sensation-based warm up leading into a series of moves that will help the dancer in building technique and cultivating curiosity through floor, standing exercises and across the floor sequences. Class will culminate in a full bodied athletic dance phrase that challenges the dancers physically and creatively as dance artists. Suitable for the absolute beginner or the pre-professional dancer, this class is open to all interested in moving. More info on Dancewave’s Adult Classes here >>
