Dancewave offers New York City schools the opportunity to craft an arts in education program for the specific needs of their school curriculum and students abilities. Our residencies encompass a variety of dance genres and ethnic forms, including Ballet, Modern, Creative Movement for children, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, African, Salsa, Flamenco, and Chinese dance. Workshops and residencies are offered both within school hours and/or during after school programs. Our program is available year-round and can last anywhere from a two-day workshop/master class to a year-long residency.
In 2015, Dancewave provided 10 free Master Classes to NYC schools supported in part by the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs and 11 dance residencies to public schools throughout NYC supported by public and private funding. Our schools partners this year included: Edward R Murrow High School, MS 447, PS 236 Mill Basin, PS 6 Lillie D. Blake School, PS 6 Norma Clemens Academy, PS 40, PS 133, PS 169 Sunset Park, PS 209, PS 311, PS 315
For year 2016, we gratefully acknowledge the support provided by NYC Council Member Brad Lander (39th District) allowing us the opportunity to partner with PS 133 for a Salsa Residency next spring! We will also be offering dance residencies at MS 447, PS 108 and PS 315 generously funded by Council Member Stephen T. Levin (33rd District), Council member Rafael L. Espinal, Jr. (37th District) and Council Member Jumaane D. Williams (45th District).
We’d also like to thank Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and the NYC Council for supporting Dancewave’s capital project with a 2016 funding allocation. The New Dancewave Center is an exciting project for Dancewave and the NYC arts community. For more information on the capital project, CLICK HERE.
