Stefanie Batten Bland is a 2015 Alvin Ailey Foundation New Directions Choreography Lab Fellow, 2014 Joffrey Ballet Choreographer of Color, 2010-12 Baryshnikov Arts Center/Jerome Robbins NEW Fellow.

Stefanie Batten Bland creates work that investigates the human condition and explores our relationship with the natural world. Her works are physically and technically demanding in dance—and are poetic emotionally driven creations. Each piece is a futuristic environment, encompassing a strong installation and theatrical flavor that immerses performer and spectator and subject in a unique performative experience.

In 2008, as the Head Choreographer at the Paris Opera Comique in France, Stefanie founded COMPANY SBB. Her works in dance cinema and on stage have performed throughout Europe, the US and Asia.  SBB has created for Guerlain Perfumes, Van Cleef & Arpels, Louis Vuitton, SYTYCD-Poland. Her residencies include: Spelman College, Santa Fe College, University of Richmond, Virginia Commonwealth University, Ohio University, Middle Tennessee State University, Guest Faculty at Ithaca College and Guest Artist Lecturer and Resident at Rutgers University.  SBB has been commissioned by the Modlin Center for the Arts, Alvin Ailey ll Company, Frontier Danceland of Singapore, Zenon Dance Company of Minneapolis and is a guest choreographer for Transitions Dance Company of London. SBB has danced for Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, Pal Frenak, Sean Curran, Georges Momboye, Cie Linga, Pina Bausch Tanz Theater Wuppertal, Lar Lubovitch, Julie Taymor and Angelin Preljocaj, and currently works for PunchDrunk’s production, SleepNoMore. Stefanie is a 2015 Camargo Resident Artist (France) and her work has been shortlisted for the Kevin Spacey Foundation artists awards.

SBB AT DANCEWAVE’S ADVANCED SUMMER DANCE INTENSIVE

Dancewave is honored to host the Advanced Summer Dance Intensive in collaboration with Stefanie Batten Bland at the beautiful LMCC Studios on Governors Island from August 10-14. Stefanie’s classes will be preceeded by a week of intensive with Shen Wei Dance Arts from August 3-7.
