Dancewave reaches over 3,000 students a year through our programs, community performances and events. Our current studio entrance at 182 4th Ave is a remnant from an old shop that existed many years ago; it is dark, dismal and not as secure as it should be.

Our students and the community deserve a welcoming, beautiful and safe space on 4th Avenue. With a new signage and a new entrance, the Dancewave center will better reflect the artistic talents of our students and teaching artists as well as the current cultural excitement in the Gowanus and Downtown Brooklyn area.

We are appreciative of the Mertz Gilmore Foundation who have already helped us raise $20,00 towards renovating the interior space. We are now able provide access to the inside studio space for the neighborhood artists and dance enthusiasts (at low, subsidized rental rates) and our own diverse student body.

But this space is far from completion. This project builds on an ongoing effort to create a new home for Dancewave on 4th Avenue. We are currently seeking additional funds to improve the exterior of the building. This would include commissioning a local artist to create a public art mural on the outside walls depicting energy, vibrancy and the Brooklyn spirit. In addition, the funds would help us set up a security system, attractive outer signage and window details such as decals and blinds.

To make this happen, Dancewave is launching a new crowd-funding effort on ioby.org – CHECK IT OUT HERE. Through this effort and support from you, our wonderful, diverse community of families, businesses and non-profit partners, we hope to expand and strengthen our community ties and move into our new 182 4th Avenue home. Together we can bring the vibrant, artistic spirit of Dancewave out onto the streets for everyone to enjoy!
