Think of a tree. Does it have all its strength in its limbs? No. The tree is only as strong as its trunk and roots. Without a strong trunk, the tree would topple over. It’s the same for human bodies. If we don’t concentrate on building a good foundation and a strong trunk or core, we’ll end up tight in some places and weak in others, injury-prone and susceptible to the pitfalls of our occupation or chosen form of exercise. (As quoted from WebMD)

“I must be right. Never an aspirin. Never injured a day in my life. The whole country, the whole world, should be doing my exercises. They’d be happier.”

– Joseph Hubertus Pilates, in 1965, age 86.

Classical Pilates is a great way to build body-awareness, a stronger core and higher flexibility. The modern lifestyle that requires us to sit in front of our computers all day long makes us work our extremities but the core and spine remain unused. Pilates is a great way to work these muscles and build a strong core and spine, and Dancewave is happy to bring this great supplement to those who want to stay fit, dance or get back into it after a long haul. Angelica Thornhill – Dancewave’s Adult Pilates Instructor

Angelica first started practicing Pilates in 2006 when she was looking for a fitness regimen to keep active. To her surprise, Pilates corrected her knee weakness and got rid of her chronic lower back pain that she had struggled with for years. She has been practicing Pilates ever since and got her certification to help others stay fit, build strong and lasting core strength, and correct any chronic aches and pains that may be plaguing them. Her classes focus on form and alignment of the body, correcting imbalances in muscles and posture, rehabilitating weak or injured areas that cause pain, and building lasting strength and flexibility. Her ultimate goal is to help students improve their performance in all activities, from sports, to dance, to everyday life, through regular Pilates practice. Learn more about Angelica here >>
