Advanced Summer Dance Intensive is an immersive training program that invites advanced dancers and young participants ages 18-24 years from across the United States to study alongside world-renowned artists in a focused and intimate environment. In this program, participants learn the unique working and choreographic methods of the artist, culminating in the performance of artist/company repertory.

This August, Dancewave has the honor of hosting the Advanced Summer Dance Intensive in collaboration with Shen Wei Dance Arts at the beautiful LMCC Studios on Governors Island. Shen Wei is an International dance company founded in the year 2000 and has performed in 138 cities, in 30 countries, on five continents and has appeared at many prestigious festivals and venues around the world such as Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival. Artistic Director, Shen Wei incorporates colors, design, and a great use of space into the company’s theatrical dances. Sara Procopio, a former Artistic Associate of Shen Wei Dance Arts will be teaching at Dancewave’s Advanced Summer Dance Intensive between August 3-7. Be sure to attend the FREE Performance Showcase at 4:30 pm on Friday, August 7, 2015!

Sara Procopio is a Brooklyn based dancer, educator and arts administrator. She is a former Artistic Associate of Shen Wei Dance Arts. From 2001-2012 her work with Shen Wei included originating roles in 10 works while performing and teaching at renowned venues and festivals throughout Europe, Asia, Australia and the United States. Sara currently performs with choreographer and media artist Jonah Bokaer and in special engagements with Shen Wei Dance Arts. As an educator, Sara teaches at colleges and universities across the country and internationally she has taught at the Korea International Dance Festival in Seoul and the Paolo Grassi School of Milan. She has created choreographic works for young artists at the Greenville Fine Arts Center and BAXco at Brooklyn Arts Exchange. Sara teaches regularly in New York City and has served as adjunct faculty at The University of the Arts since 2011 and on faculty at the American Dance Festival since 2008. Presently, Sara serves as Associate Rehearsal Director for Shen Wei Dance Arts, Company Manager for Big Dance Theater and is on faculty at Brooklyn Arts Exchange.
